Indian Visas For Chinese Tourists Resume From Today, 24th July 2025, After a 5-Year Gap

After a five-year pause, a new chapter in travel is beginning, starting on 24th July 2025

Indian visas are finally reopening for Chinese tourists, reviving the long-standing ties between two of Asia’s biggest neighbours. Witnessing the lifestyles of Indians, exploring the bustling Indian streets, and savouring the juicy Indian sweets, Chinese travellers can now once again pack their bags and explore the vibrant colours, cultures, and cuisines of India.

Before the suspension of tourist visas in 2020, India was issuing a significant number of visas to Chinese nationals for tourism purposes.

As per the records of the Indian Government regarding the issuance of visas to Chinese citizens 📝:

Back in February 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread, the Indian government made a call to suspend the two key visa categories for Chinese travellers to prioritise the safety and health of Indian citizens.

The following are the short-term visas that the Government suspended for Chinese citizens:

  • Tourist Visa (T)
  • e-Tourist Visa (e-TV)
  • e-business Visa (e-BV)
  • e-Medical Visa (e-MV)
  • e-Medical Attendant Visa (e-MEXV)
  • e-Conference Visa (e-CV)

The visas, including Business Visa, Student Visa, Employment Visa, Medical Visa, Diplomatic Visa, and other long-term visas, have not been suspended.

After a long 5-year gap, the tourist relationship between India and China has reopened.

The period of suspension of Indian visas for Chinese citizens was primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic and, more importantly, the Gulwan Valley Border clashes in June 2020.

Now, after a five-year suspension, on July 23, 2025, the Indian Government officially announced the lifting of the suspension, effective July 24, 2025.

  • Both the e-Tourist visa and the Tourist visa have been resumed.
