With the Australian Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190), candidates nominated by the Australian state or government can apply for permanent residency in the country.

- Occupation: The candidate’s occupation must be on the skilled occupations list of eligible occupations. The candidate will need to present their skills assessment to prove that they hold the necessary skills and qualifications to work in the nominated occupation
- Points: To be eligible for the invitation letter, the candidate will need to secure a minimum of 60 points. This score is calculated based on the information the candidate provides in their Expression of Entry (EOI) profile
- Age: The candidate must be under the age of 45 at the time of receiving an Invitation to Apply
- English: The candidate will need to be proficient in the English language
- Health: The candidate must prove that they are medically fit to migrate to Australia
- Character: The candidate must have no previous criminal or police records
- Debts: The candidate must prove that any debts he had have been cleared
- Cancelled Visa: The candidate will be ineligible to apply for the visa if their visa was cancelled or refused while being in Australia
Process to Apply for the Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
- The process to apply for the Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) begins with the candidate contacting the preferred state or territory in which he has an interest to migrate and work in.
- The candidate will then need to create their Expression of Interest (EOI) on the online SkillSelect system.
- The candidate will then need to wait to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for the visa.
- If invited, the candidate will then need to apply for the Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
Processing Time
The general processing time for most candidates is 6 months. This time can also extend up to 10 months, depending on the circumstances.
What is an Expression of Interest (EOI)
The Expression of Interest (EOI) provides the Australian immigration authorities with your basic information, which includes your educational, professional and personal details.
Your EOI lasts for two years, which means that your EOI will remain with the Australian immigration authority for two years.
People willing to apply for the Skilled Independent Visa must submit an EOI, taking into account that they are below the age of 45.
After you submit your EOI, you will become part of a pool with similar candidates, and the one with the highest ranking will be sent an invitation to apply for the visa. You need not pay any fee for the creation of EOI. You can create your EOI either while being in Australia or overseas.

What does the Permanent Resident Visa allow you to do?
The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) allows you to:
- Live and work in Australia indefinitely (Nominated state or territory only)
- Work and study in Australia(Nominated state or territory only)
- Enrol you and your family in Australian public-funded healthcare called Medicare.
- You can also sponsor your family member for the Skilled Independent visa
- You can travel to and from Australia for five years
- Apply for Australian citizenship if eligible
Total Cost of Applying for Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
You will need to pay AUD 3,670 to get your Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190). You may also need to pay any additional charges for skills assessments, counsellor fees (if you hire one)
There is an additional fee for extra family members who will be accompanying you to Australia.
The Second Instalment: The Second Instalment is the fee paid for a family member who is over 18 and has limited English proficiency. This fee is also referred to as VAC2 or the second VAC. This instalment is paid after meeting all the visa requirements.
