Express Entry For Canada PR Visa
The Government of Canada launched the Canadian Express Entry programme on January 1st, 2015. The Express Entry programme selects the Candidate according to a points-based system.
The Canadian Express Entry programme selects skilled candidates for permanent residence (PR) who can fulfil the occupation demands in Canada. Further divided below are three more immigration programmes.
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program is the most sought-after immigration programme by skilled workers willing to migrate to Canada. This programme offers permanent residency to eligible candidates. To qualify, the candidates must score a minimum of 67 points in Express Entry.
- Canada Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP):
This program is for applicants who hold expertise in trade work and are willing to settle in Canada permanently. These candidates can only apply for permanent residence with a job in an authorised Canadian employer. - The Canadian Experience Class:
This programme allows candidates living temporarily in Canada under a student or work permit visa to apply for permanent residency. However, the Candidate is also required to qualify in the competent English and French tests.
How does Express Entry Select Suitable Candidates?
The Candidate fills in his details, relevant qualifications, and work experience in the Express Entry form. Key profile factors, such as age, education, work experience, and language skills, help the Candidate secure points.
Canadian provinces and territories are also allowed to view the candidates ‘ profiles through the Express Entry system and select them for the Provincial Nominee Program.
Eligibility for Canada Express Entry
- The Candidate will need to show their Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), i.e. any overseas education that the Candidate has pursued other than in Canada. The education pursued by the Candidate must match the Canadian Education equivalency. Also, please note that the ECA reports are valid for 5only 5 years.
- The Candidate will need to submit their English competency test scores. These scores are valid for only two years.
- The Candidate should apply for the Canada PR Visa online in Express Entry and then submit their Expression of Interest (EOI).
- The Candidate needs to secure a minimum of 67 points based on key profile factors, such as age, education, work experience, and language skills.
- Upon receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA) for the Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) Visa, the Candidate must obtain their health and character certificates. The Candidate should then submit the same to the respective assessing authority in Canada.
The Canada Express Entry Draw
IRCC conducts Express Entry draws every 15 days, selecting the top candidates who can meet the job requirements in Canada.
These candidates are then issued an Invitation to Apply for the PR Visa. Each drawer has a defined CRS (Eligibility score) that the Candidate must meet. The CRS may or may not change during the Express Entry Draw.

Applying for the Visa after receiving IT
Once the Candidate is issued an ITA, they have 60 days to apply for a permanent residency Visa. Generally, a visa is issued within 5-6 months. However, if the Candidate submits all documents on time and the assessment is completed promptly, they can expect to receive their Visa within 3-4 months.
